Bloom’s Family Resource Center (FRC) is continuing its vital work of strengthening and supporting local families. Since its inception in October of 2023, the FRC has helped at-risk families overcome challenges and create stable home environments where children can thrive.

“A child’s well-being and success are often linked to family stability,” said Pamella Talley, Director of Foster Care and Prevention Services. “By providing services and support to these families, we can help them recover from any challenges they may have experienced and ultimately keep children out of the foster care system.”

Through a variety of resources and evidence-based programs, the FRC empowers parents and caregivers to build strong, healthy family dynamics. Bloom University offers trauma-informed education to strengthen parenting skills. The Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) provides training to help parents manage behavioral challenges and reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect. Families also receive free essential items such as clothing, school supplies, books, and toys through The Bloom Closet. Additionally, the FRC provides families with direct access to local community resources tailored to their specific needs.

“The goal of the Family Resource Center is to provide families with additional support when they need it most,” said Program Manager Denise Johnson. “By addressing challenges early, we can prevent neglect or abuse and ensure children experience less trauma.”

Funded in part by a grant from the Georgia Department of Human Services Prevention and Community Support Division, the FRC has already made a significant impact. Over 265 children referred from Griffin-Spalding County have received critical support, and eight FRC trips have been made on the Bloom Closet Express to deliver essential supplies to families in need.

The impact of the FRC is best seen in the stories of the families it serves. Ms. Davis, a mother of two, was referred to the program for support with parenting strategies for her 3-year-old daughter, who had been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Struggling to manage screen time and behavioral challenges, Ms. Davis participated in Triple P Parent Coaching, where she learned strategies to set limits while reinforcing positive behaviors. Initially, the transition was difficult, but by implementing structured screen time limits and incorporating positive reinforcement during toilet training, her daughter began to make significant improvements. By the fourth week, tantrums had significantly decreased, and she was more willing to participate in toilet training. Ms. Davis expressed her gratitude, sharing that the program “helped her deal more effectively with her child’s behavior and challenges at home.”

Services provided through the Family Resource Center are available by referral only. For more information, contact Program Manager Denise Johnson at 770.460.6652, ext. 306 or d.johnson@bloomfosters.org.
