May is Foster Parent Appreciation Month, and Bloom is proud to celebrate our incredible foster families who care for foster children every single day.

During our home study process, we ask our families, “Who is in your village?” What we have found is that many of our families have come together to form their own powerful community, encouraging one another, sharing resources, and welcoming new members in.

Recently, a group of Bloom foster moms attended a women’s retreat together, which focused on faith and fellowship. It was a weekend to rest, recharge, and reflect on their shared journey of fostering.

Each of these women bring something extraordinary to our community:

Jessica L. has cared for the same sibling pair since becoming licensed, always advocating for their emotional and mental well-being.

Brooke P. has been licensed for a little over a year and has taken care of four therapeutic children during this time, helping two to reunite with their families.

Katie A. helped a sibling set make significant academic strides and continues to stay connected post-reunification, also offering respite care to other foster parents.

Lucy R. provides loving respite care, especially for teens and preteens. She offers a safe and welcoming space and has a dog named Mandy that the children and teens adore.

Lisa C. goes the extra mile, literally, traveling out of state to access advanced therapies for the children in her care.

Lisa R. is a relatively new foster mom who focuses on educational advocacy and getting her placements actively involved in the community.

This group of women’s strong bond extends beyond this retreat, providing ongoing support to families throughout Coweta and Fayette counties and beyond. There is always an open seat at their table for new families to join and become part of their supportive and camaraderie-filled community.

“This month, and every month, we are grateful for our foster parents and their commitment to the children in their care,” said Pamela Talley, Director of Foster Care and Prevention Services. “While individually they are strong and incredible, together they are an unstoppable force that is always ready to go above and beyond for Bloom foster children.”
