Westminster STUDENTS in Action: Supporting Children in Foster Care

Bloom is proud of our growing partnership with Westminster Schools, an Atlanta community partner that continues to show up for foster children and families in meaningful ways.

Last May, Westminster agreed to host a campus collection bin to gather new and nearly-new clothing and essential items for children served by Bloom. And to further help raise funds in support of Bloom, they invited Bloom to participate in its Partners in Purpose event in December.

“This partnership truly reflects what community support looks like in action,” said Bloom CEO Becky Davenport. “Westminster doesn’t just talk about service; they engage their students, faculty, and families in ways that create real impact for the children we serve.”

A highlight of this partnership has been the engagement of Westminster students. Bloom’s Community Outreach Coordinator, Jennifer Waters, connected with members of their Service Council, who led a student-driven clothing drive for Bloom. The drive was launched during morning announcements and a student-created video, showcasing impressive leadership and creativity.

“The level of ownership and creativity the students brought to this project was truly inspiring,” Jennifer shared. “They weren’t just participating. They were leading, problem-solving, and truly thinking about how their efforts could help other young people.”

Jennifer also spoke with two 8th-grade Engage classes, aligning with their curriculum focus on Difference, Disability, and Invisibility. Together, they discussed foster care and why it is often an “invisible” issue, prompting thoughtful questions and meaningful dialogue.

We are thankful to the entire Westminster community for their commitment to service. Partnerships like this provide critical resources for children in foster care while empowering young people to learn, lead, and make a difference.
