How Churches, Schools, and Civic Groups Can Make a Difference for Foster Children

Supporting children in foster care doesn’t require becoming a foster parent. Every community has the power to make a lasting impact, and churches, schools, civic organizations, businesses, and community groups are uniquely positioned to help children and families thrive.

At Bloom, we’ve seen firsthand how collective acts of kindness can change lives. Whether it’s providing essential items, volunteering your time, or raising awareness, every effort helps ensure children in foster care feel seen, valued, and supported.

Here are a few meaningful ways your group can get involved:

Host a Donation Drive
Collect much-needed items such as clothing, shoes, diapers, school supplies, hygiene products, or birthday gifts. These donations help stock The Bloom Closet, where foster children from across Georgia can shop for free. Contact Jennifer Waters to organize a drive at j.waters@bloomfosters.org.

Volunteer Together
Organize a volunteer day sorting donations, assembling Bloom Direct care packages, or preparing resources for children and foster families. It’s a hands-on way to make a tangible difference while serving together. Contact Jenny Moore to volunteer at j.moore@bloomfosters.org.

Support Children Heading Back to School
Host a backpack or school supply drive to help children begin the school year with confidence and the tools they need to succeed. Contact Jennifer Waters to organize a drive at j.waters@bloomfosters.org.

Become a Champion for Foster Families
Prepare meals, provide gift cards, or help meet practical needs for foster families in your community. A strong support network helps foster parents continue saying “yes” to children who need them most. Contact Tierra Harp at t.harp@bloomfosters.org to find ways to directly support our foster families.

Raise Awareness
Invite a Bloom team member to speak at your church, school, civic club, or community event. Learning about the needs of children in foster care is often the first step toward meaningful action. Contact Jenny Moore to schedule a speaker at j.moore@bloomfosters.org.

Give Financially
Your civic group, school, or church can organize a fundraiser on behalf of Bloom. Monetary donations provide the flexibility to meet urgent needs, from shipping Bloom Direct boxes within 48 hours of a child entering care to purchasing essentials when specific items are needed most. Visit https://bloomfosters.org/donate/ to donate.

Every act of generosity, large or small, helps create brighter futures for children who have experienced tremendous uncertainty.

If your church, school, civic organization, or community group would like to partner with Bloom, we’d love to connect. Together, we can ensure more children across Georgia receive the hope, dignity, and support they deserve.
