Three young boys sat quietly in The Bloom Closet while their foster mom completed paperwork.
Then the front door opened.
Another foster family walked in with three boys.
Almost instantly, the boys leapt to their feet.
They ran toward one another, laughing, smiling, and wrapping each other in the biggest hugs.
Our administrative assistant, who witnessed the moment firsthand, watched in amazement as the reunion unfolded. It wasn’t until afterward that she learned why.
They were brothers.
Separated by foster care and living in different homes, they hadn’t seen each other in months.
For a few precious minutes, the uncertainty, heartbreak, and trauma of foster care seemed to disappear. They weren’t children navigating one of life’s hardest circumstances. They were simply brothers, reunited. They laughed, caught up, and cherished the chance to be together again.
It was a moment no one in the room will ever forget.
Every day, children enter foster care carrying the weight of loss, uncertainty, and separation. While we can’t erase the trauma they’ve experienced, we can surround them with comfort, dignity, and hope and sometimes, create space for moments of unexpected joy and connection.
Whether it’s providing clothing and essentials through The Bloom Closet, delivering a Bloom Direct Box within 48 hours of a child’s entering foster care, or equipping foster families with the resources they need, your generosity helps children feel seen, valued, and loved during one of the most difficult times in their lives.
They deserve to experience moments of joy. And they deserve every opportunity to stay connected to the people they love.
